Brookelyn West:
In Chapter 7, Alice arrives at the Hatter’s house to see a tea party set up. There at the party was the Hatter, the Hare, and the Dormouse - who was fast asleep. When arriving she was not welcomed to the party, not minding this Alice sat down anyway. Alice started to notice that the two awake were very rude and had no manners. They then started to talk about random things like watches. They then move on to talking about the song they needed to sing to the Queen and how she was to kill the Hatter. The talk about time and how always has tea time at the same time. They start to tell a story of three sisters and how they learned to draw. Alice let the table after the Hatter’s rudeness and went inside of a door in a tree.

I find that in Chapter 7 it can relate to variety of subjects. Like how in the Victorian era - in which this is based off of - They were very well mannered and and were taught to never be rude. But at this tea party the Hatter and the March Hare are very rude towards her. They would’ve pulled out a chair, asked her if she want some tea, or any other polite thing like that, but they were rude to her as soon as she got to the table. I mean I would understand because she wasn’t invited and just kinda sat herself down at their table. Another thing is they rarely ever talked about very important things over tea, it was sort of a relaxing type of thing. In the Victorian era they also made hats using mercury. Using it would cause severe mental illness and make the hatter go mad, coining the term “mad as a hatter”. Now you could go the usual route and say that Mad Hatter is an actual hatter, but i think there could be another possibility. He could also be just mad regularly and because of the term “mad as a hatter” they nicknamed him hatter.
In 2016 we rarely ever have tea parties, but when we do it becomes a special occasion and we do it now to feel like royalty or fancy. Imagine a tea party, you are probably imagining a princess hosting this extravagant tea party you must be personally invited to come. So women now would have tea parties to feel elegant and poise, but we still don’t act the way they did with Alice. Tea parties are supposed to be relaxed and fun, but there are also rules behind all of the fun.
I agree with your summary. Great job on your real world connections on how it relates to 2016.
